6th April 2013 In Concert at Swanland Village Hall

First concert of the year:

Beverley Brass Band took to stage at Swanland Village Hall for their first concert of the year. This was an entirely re-vamped programme for the New Year. The band drafted in the expertise of former Musical Director, Jim Johnson on Euphonium (stepping in for the 'temporarily out of action' Eddie Pybus who broke his wrist). The band also had help from Rhodri Williams (a bass player from The University of Hull Brass Band) who has subsequently agreed to be part of the band in its build-up to the Hardraw Scar entertainments Contest.

Kind of a panorama of the band with Peter our MD covering the stitches....

The band played a well varied programme including the Black Dyke's signature march 'Knight Templar' and the landscape-evoking piece 'Oregon' (turning out to be an audience favourite). The soloists included principal cornet, Katherine Hanover, Solo Euphonium, Jim Johnson and Solo Tenor Horn, Pete Wilson. The soloists played 'Buster Strikes Back', 'Grandfather's Clock' and 'He 'aint heavy he's my brother', respectively.

The band even had some choreography to tackle with. 'Joy, Peace and Happiness' proved to be an audience foot-tapper and the Louisianna Funeral style of 'The Old Rugged Cross' saw the cornets march to the stage.

MD Peter Kench said he felt that 'the night was a great success. The varied audience thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the band played very well. We are looking forward to our return to Swanland in December and to the rest of the concert series'.

The band were supposed to be entertaining the good folk of Beverley outside the shops but the weather was awful and grateful thanks to TESCO for letting us play inside and shelter from the rain.

Christmas Concert Welton Memorial Hall - 20/12/2012

Had another great evening at Welton, despite the horrid rain outside and for a change got a photograph of almost the whole band (Fred is hiding behind the curtain and Stuart behind his Bb Bass)!!

The best laugh of the night was when a 4 year old beat Peter to the punchline!

The Garrison Church of St Martin - 11/12/2012

The band played at the Festival of Lessons and Carols for the troops at The Garrison Church of St Martin, Leconfield.

Castle Hill Hospital Christmas Service - 09/12/2012

After playing in the festival of Christmas on the street of Beverley we retuned to The Queens's Centre for Oncology & Haematology at Castle Hill Hospital to play during their Christmas Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving.

Then we toured the wards playing carols and ended up at the Teenage Cancer Unit Ward which was really special as we had only played a concert the previous evening and raised over £300 for that TCT ward!

Following the service the band played at several of the wards ending up at the TCT unit.

Christmas Concert - Swanland Village Hall - 08/12/2012

We played our first Christmas concert of the year at Swanland Village Hall and the good folk of Swanland helped us raise over £300 for the Castle Hill Teenage Cancer Unit while also giving us the chance to have a bit of fun!
